Hung out to dry, been crucified, been nailed to the cross

Gave me a crown of thorns, clothes ripped and torn, said my life was lost.

Buried in a tomb, my open wounds, were seasoned with salty words

My other cheek was turned, so that you could learn, how love becomes a verb.

All I gave was love, treated like a thug,

or a beggar on the streets

Little did they know, I could save their souls,

and set the captives free.

They threw dirt in my face, my blood left a trace,

where the tears should have been

No malice is in my heart, I'll give my life, no charge, God forgive them for their sins.

Mary don’t you weep, don’t lose no sleep,

and tell Martha not to moan

They can’t take my life, I’m just paying the price,

so that hell won't be your home.

I was left for dead, benediction been said,

and the fat lady done sang her song

One thing they didn’t know, you can’t kill my soul, and I won’t be down for long.

I can’t be held by no grave, the price has been paid, for you to receive your prize

Like bread full of yeast, and the sun in the east,

“I AM SURE TO RISE”
