Irma DeTiege was a monster for humanity. Coming from Riverton LA, she experienced many life hardships from her cotton field experiences, one room church schoolhouse to Monroe Colored High School. The hardships Mrs. DeTiege faced helped as she was an advocate for the voiceless and the invisible. Her vision through the News Leader, Monroe News Weekly and Monroe Dispatch gave Blacks and the poor a platform while viewing themselves in a different light.
