The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Foundation of Ouachita Parish observed its 37th Annual MLK Day on Monday January 18, 2021 virtually and at Greater New Antioch Baptist Church in Monroe LA. Pastor Vance A. Price New Saint James Baptist Church Monroe LA was guest speaker. Recognition and award presentations were presented including the Martin Luther King Jr. Humanitarian Award to retired City Marshal Wince Highshaw Jr., Martin Luther King Jr. Trailblazer Award Dr. Valerie Fields and Dr. John L. Russell Sr. Community Award Attorney James Ross. Recognition and presentation of essay winners were awarded. The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Foundation of Ouachita Parish is the sponsor of the annual Nation Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday which occurs on the 3rd Monday in January. The foundation's goal is to keep Dr. King's dream alive and to perpetuate his philosophy of justice and equality for all people.
