Margie Deloris Harris Davis graced the world with her presence on a bright and blessed day of July 17, 1947. She was born in Monroe, Louisiana the third child to the late Thomas and Lucille Harris. Margie was a 1965 graduate of Richwood High School. She pursued a nursing career and graduated from Delta Ouachita Vocational School practical nursing program in 1972. She then furthered her nursing career at Northeast Louisiana University where she received a bachelors in nursing in 1978. She pledged and was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated. She worked tirelessly as a nurse at many medical facilities in Monroe and the surrounding area. She was a nurse manager at EA Conway/LSU Monroe Medical Center and retired with over 30 years of service. Margie was also an adjunct educator of practical nurses, medical and nursing assistants for many years at various institutions to include Ouachita Industrialization Center (OIC) prior to her illness. With the blessing of being reared in a loving Christian home, Margie dedicated her life to Christ at an early age and was a longtime member of New St. James Missionary Baptist Church. She later became a member of Philadelphia Word Center Church under the leadership of Rev. Alfred Mack. Margie was active in several ministries and recited the history of Philadelphia Word Center every church anniversary. She was affectionately called "Missionary Davis" by her church family.

Everyone who knew Margie knew she worked diligently at uplifting people and preparing the youth for the challenges of adult life. This benevolence, humanitarianism and philanthropy led to her tireless efforts serving as a former Alderman for the town of Richwood and supporting and volunteering with the Richwood Community Development Agency (RCDA). RCDA was founded in 1988 as a non-profit instrumental in promoting the economic well-being of the citizens of the Town of Richwood and Ouachita Parish through education, health services, support of other non-profit agencies, child summer enrichment, and annual bicycle giveaway throughout Monroe and Ouachita Parish. RCDA and volunteers have sponsored the annual Juneteenth celebration for over 20 years. Margie adored her family and friends. She made sure the family gathered to celebrate the holidays with a special affinity for Christmas. She would decorate every inch of her home and yard and prepare a feast fit for a king. She followed in the footsteps of her mother Lucille and had a grand celebration each Labor Day. A master gardener, Margie loved to showcase her flowers and vegetables, much of which she shared with others. Family and friends were known to visit her while in Richwood because she always imparted life lessons and words of wisdom. Early November 11, 2020 surrounded by her loving family Margie gained her wings and now rests in the arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents Thomas and Lucille Harris and her son in-law George Baggett. She leaves to cherish her memories: two daughters, Anastasia "Yogi" Baggett, Antoinette "Toni" Hudson (Kelley); two grandchildren, Antoine Johnson, Kalliyah Gardner; two great grandchildren, Violet and Abel Johnson; two brothers, Edward Harris (Lillie) and Curtis Harris (Gloria); one sister, Glenda Ward (Hines); two aunt's, Eula Mae Owens and Arnell Green; uncle, James Harris; and several loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family wishes to thank three special friends who were a constant presence in Margie's and her girls' lives; Shelia Lewis, Nancy Mack, and Gloria Monroe.

The Celebration of Life for Margie Harris Davis will be held November 21, 2020, at 11:00 am at the Philadelphia Word Center Church Family Life Center, 115 Arnold Drive in Monroe, with Reverend Dr. Alfred L. Mack-Officiating. Visitation is at Smith funeral home Friday November 20, from 4 - 6 pm.
