Reese London is a candidate for Monroe City Marshal. Though he has some big shoes to fill due to the recent retirement of Marshal Wince Highshaw, he feels confident that he is quite capable of being a positive figure within the department. London is originally from Union Parish but has lived in Monroe since 1975. He was a 1968 graduate of Westside High School and received a football scholarship to attend Marshall University in Huntington, Virginia. After several days of registration and orientation, he was told that his scholarship did not cover out of state fees. Being the fourth child of eight in a single parent home, he realized that his best option financially was to return to Louisiana. In hindsight, relative to the movie, "We Are Marshall", this was a blessing in disguise because two years later, most of the football team along with coaches and boosters were killed in an airplane crash! (But God!) Fortunately, on the last day of registration, London was able to enroll in Grambling College (G.S.U.), get a job on campus, and complete his studies with an Equal Opportunity Grant (E.O.G.). He has earned bachelor's and master's degrees from Grambling and advanced training from the Louisiana Department of Corrections, as well as the U.S. Department of Justice. He retired from the Louisiana Department of Corrections and the Monroe City Police Reserves. He is presently employed as a deputy marshal with the city of Monroe. He deeply believes that no matter the outcome of the election, just like his experience at Marshall University, God is in control, so cast your votes and let His will be done!
