Curse before I could talk

Because I learned what the streets taught.

That I am less than a man

Because I am locked inside this can

And can't move around unless cuffs are on my hands.

That I am so blind that I can't see

That all prisoners don't have shackles on their feet

Some are enslaved by power and they can't break free.

That because of your rank , you are above the law

That you can act like you didn't see what you saw

And, hell's fire won't cook your meat when its raw.

That when the doors swing open, that I don't want to walk thru

And, at shift change, I don't want to go home too

Because I never reveal my thoughts to you.

That there is no one waiting for me at night

That I am not a husband with 3 kids and a wife

Because I am paying the state a price.

That since the judge had the power to sentence me

And, you control when I eat, sleep and pee

That I think this is how my life should be.

That when the lights are low in the still of the night

My tears don't flow until I lose my sight

Because the mask I wear shows my strength and might.

That I don't stare out my cell window like I am in a daze

Watching the birds disappear without leaving a trace

And don't wish that I could take their place.

That my blood is blue

That I don't need forgiveness for the wrong I do

That I am not a human being, just like you.

That there is water running thru my veins

That I don't get wet whenever it rains

That I don't have the desire and potential to change.

That just because you have things I never had

And, can hide behind your position because you wear a badge

That I don't ever think about beating your a$$.

That because I stole something I should have bought

And, didn't learn my lessons when they were being taught

That I don't know that you are a crook that hadn't been caught.

That you could pour water in a full cup and it will never spill

That getting paid for the wrong you do is not a bitter pill

That only I will pay for my dirty deeds and you never will.

That just because I am not a farmer , I'm not smart enough to know

That if you plant apple seeds, then you can't expect oranges to grow

Because a man reaps the same thing that he sows.

That if my boat is in the water, then it is bound to sink
