Eula D. Britton 1970 50th

The Eula D. Britton Class of 1970 has struck gold. On this day (Sunday, May 24, 1970) 50 years ago, the last graduating class of Eula D. Britton High School Rayville LA marched across the stage to receive their diplomas. It was a bitter-sweet moment for us, but we persevered through all the disappointments to remain as one. First, all our classmates did not walk across the stage at Eula D. Britton to receive our long-awaited high school graduation diplomas. Some had to graduate from Holly Ridge High, some from Rayville High and one from Mangham High Schools. Although we were apart, we were still together in spirit. Second, we did not have our traditional baccalaureate services, nor did we have our commencement exercises. We had a Bacco-Commencement, something never heard of before at Britton High. Third, the faculty did not march in front of us as was the tradition. Since the principal did not want to march, the faculty was not permitted to march. We had big plans for this golden year, but like all other class and school reunions, our festivities were canceled because of the corona virus. I am still hoping that a miracle will happen, and we can still celebrate our milestone during the year 2020. If we have to celebrate a “year” later, we can always pretend that it is 2020. I even took out my memory book to look at the things that happened during our high school years, particularly our senior year. I looked at the messages that classmates and friends wrote, pictures, news clippings, sports records, latest songs, and dances, etc. Congratulations classmates on reaching this milestone. I hope to see you soon so that we can go down memory lane. As for the classmates who are no longer with us, they will always be remembered. They will always be a part of us.
