Dr. Joseph W. Capers, Sr. remembers his late father Rev. J. S. Capers ... Lewis Temple Christian Methodist Episcopal Church of Grambling, LA held its first “Back to School Revival” the week of September 17-21. The evangelist of the week was Rev. J.S. Capers of Shreveport. The pastor is Rev. Harvey D. Willis. Rev. Capers brought an inspiring message each night. He preach such sermons as: “Open the door, let Satan out and Christ in.” “The Prodigal Son,” “I thought I was right but I found out that I was wrong.” The spirit was high each night and many souls were revived. Rev. Capers was presented a beautiful plaque by Rev. Willis for his 57 years in the ministry. Rev. Capers is a senior minister in the CME Church and still put our trust and hope in God. The earthly church had two important functions, they were (1) preaching and (2) teaching. The Sermon on the Mount consists of eight Beatitudes and six anti theses. Matthew’s Sermon on the Mount opens with the eight (8) beatitudes (blessed). The book of Luke 6:20-26 contrasts four (4) blessings with four (4) woes. The four (4) blessings are those who are hungry, poor, weep and hatred. The four (4) woes are those who are rich, those who have an advance of food, those who are well spoken of and those who have a good time. Christians are spiritual millionaires.
