"Operation Care"

Dispatch

Monroe Mayor Jamie Mayo and Interim Police Chief Reggie Brown passed out grilled lunch.

On last week, several Monroe Police Officers, who were assigned to work the tornado damaged areas, wanted to do something special to uplift the countless families that were so greatly affected by the tornado. These officers came together and donated their own money and spent their personal time organizing the initiative and buying food to provide a treat for the families in the impacted communities. After media organizations reported their good deed, several citizens contacted the department to donate money and food to assist them in their cause. One citizen who donated money called their act of compassion "Operation Care"! As a result of the donations and support from the community, "Operation Care" was set-up in the Carver Elementary School Parking lot located in Monroe, and served grilled lunches to the residents impacted in the area of Carver Elementary School on April 28, 2020. "Operation Care" provided over 500 grilled lunches to the impacted residents in the community. COVID-19 Precautions: Monroe Police had residents to drive up and allow officers to bring lunches to their vehicles in compliance with the Governor's Executive Order which allows curbside delivery. All Monroe Police Officers wore masks and gloves in compliance with CDC COVID-19 protective measures.
