On U. S. Highway 165 South in Monroe LA at night, walking pesdestrians are at the mercy of drivers due to the extreme darkness of the stretch of road from Winnsboro Road to Richwood High School. It's been a hazard and until the lights are placed on this section of the Highway numerous more lives will be lost. State Officials have been scrambling to addresses this issue while the need was the previous lives which have already been lost. Aaron Akins was struck by vehicle Friday April 17 on U.S Highway north of Richwood High School. According to LA State Police Troop F, a vehicle hit pedestrian who was walking in the northbound travel lane with dark colored clothing. Pedestrian Aaron Akins 38, was pronounced dead at the scene by the coroner. The accident is under investigation while toxicology samples from the driver were taken and will be analyzed. Many recognize the dangers of walking down Highway 165 in that particular dark section while this is a recurring safety hazard. After three lives or more lost in this part of the highway another would be a travesty. Please put the lights up on U.S. Highway South.
