Mother Mary M. Hughes Final Rites

Mother Mary M. Hughes was born on February 10, 1940 to the parents of the late John Mendenball and Louvae Thomas Taylor in Springhill, LA. Mother Hughes joined the Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in the late 1980s. She was crowned a “Mother” when her late husband became a deacon, and remained faithful member until her death. Her husband of 47 years, Deacon Ballard Hughes, proceeded in death. Mother Hughes was a former State of Louisiana Social Services Department employee. She worked with the Child Abuse and Foster Care program for over 29 years before retiring. She departed this life on April 4, 2020 at St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe, LA. She leaves to cherish wonderful memories five children; Ballard “Joe” Hughes Jr., of Monroe, LA, Jeff W. Hughes (Calantha) of Jacksonville, FL, Letetia Faye Hughes (David) of Phoenix, AZ, Nathaniel “Nate” Hughes of Monroe, LA, Felecia Hughes-Cheffin (Carl) of Silverdale, WA; one sister Brooksie Bailey, of Monroe LA, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends. Graveside services were held Wednesday April 15, 2020 at Richwood Memorial Gardens, Richwood LA under the direction of Smith Funeral Home Monroe LA. The days of our years are three score years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years yet is their strength labor and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away. Psalms 90:10
