Mother Mary M. Hughes was born on February 10, 1940 to the parents of the late John Mendenball and Louvae Thomas Taylor in Springhill, LA. Mother Hughes joined the Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in the late 1980s. She was crowned a “Mother” when her late husband became a deacon, and remained faithful member until her death. Her husband of 47 years, Deacon Ballard Hughes, proceeded in death. Mother Hughes was a former State of Louisiana Social Services Department employee.
