Fake Justice

In the late 1990s, many people got into investing in stock after seeing and hearing stories of successful businesspeople making good yields. For everyday folks, investing is a means to save and grow their hard-earned money, too, so many sought to find trained professionals to help navigate the stock market. Mr. Curtis Garth was finally ready to buy stocks and invest his money and sought out to find an investor to help him. Shortly after he made his first investments, he lost all he had invested along with all hope he had in a system that is billed to be in place to protect the people.

The story goes that he issued orders to his broker, who employed by BankOne Bank, to purchase specific stocks with his investments. He eventually found out that his broker with the FDIC backed bank, instead embezzled money by going into his account and collecting loot several times. Shortly after, Mr. Garth filed charges with the Monroe Police Department (MPD) and filed legal documents to sue his thieving broker and bank for fraud. In 1999, after several, no responses from the broker and its representatives, Judge B. Jones, the judge presiding over the case, issued a judgment and order in favor of Mr. Garth. The judgment should have been the end of his battles to receive his earnings from his investment deal gone awry, but it turned out it was the unofficial start to his struggle with not only local authorities but with the US Department of Justice.

Over the years Mr. Garth has filed complaints with local agencies including MPD, the city of Monroe, the Mayor’s office, the Ouachita Parish Clerk of Court, his State Representatives, the US Department of Justice, the US Securities and Exchange Committee (SEC), and the office of the President of the United States. To no avail, each entity has yet to rectify the injustice that has been inflicted on Mr. Garth. This situation has made him gravely question our government and political system in which, in this instance, the law of the land is not being upheld.

To date, Mr. Garth has yet to receive the justice that aligns with the signed judgment and order he received. It should make us all wonder and question if the laws of the courts are being withheld for some people in this country. Why would all of these agencies ignore his attempts to right a wrong? Is this fair and just?
