SU Alumni President Dilcie Grren presented Rev. Annanias Word with a token of gratitude

The Southern University Alumni/Monroe Chapter worshipped at Zion Traveler Baptist Church Sunday March 9 during the morning. service in honor of the University's 140 years in existence. Dilcie Green, president of the organization, thanked Pastor Annanias Word for hosting the group. The university was founded during the Reconstruction Era that occurred after the United States Civil War. In 1880, with the passage of Act 87, SU was established in 1881. The first campus was on Calliope Street in New Orleans. In 1890, SU became a designated federal land-grant institution by the second Morrill Act of...
