One of Monroe's oldest residents celebrated a milestone birthday, Mrs. Annie Davis, who still sings in the choir at King Solomon Church, celebrated her 107th. birthday on November 25, 2019 surrounded by her family and friends. Mrs. Annie was born in 1912 and raised by her parents John and Rebecca Horace, in what is now known as Milhaven Estates, where she grew up on a farm, worked in the field and went to "a little school" with only one teacher, at Colored High, she told Dispatch. Mrs. Annie is the oldest of two siblings who have since passed away. Mrs. Annie married Mr. John Davis in 1933 and had one son. Mrs. Annie continues to live in her home, with her son Jesse Ward who just recently celebrated his 87th. birthday. Mrs. Annie boasts with an excellent memory, recollecting days of yester year without pause. When asked about the key to her longevity, Mrs. Annie shares her wisdom to encourage people to follow their heart, and everything else will fall into place. Mrs. Annie is independent and mobile, she said that her daily routine consists of waking up early at sunrise, getting dressed, making her bed and cooking her favorite food collard greens.
