Lottie Walker Haynes was born January 9, 1921 to the late Octavia Stamper Walker and Daniel Walker. She had one brother and two sisters, Louis Walker, Naomi Walker and Emma Lee Walker Christian all who preceded her in death.

In 1941, Lottie married Armstead Haynes Sr., and to this union, twelve children were born, six boys and six girls.

Mrs. Haynes attended Union Central High School, formerly Rosenwald School. She was baptized at an early age at Brownsville Baptist Church in Columbia, LA. Not only was she a member, but she was also actively involved as a servant at the church as shown by the numerous committees she served on and positions she held. Mrs. Lottie Haynes served as an usher, choir member, food committee member, and servant on the mother’s board. Mrs. Haynes served as a great example in and outside of her home. Her love for food and wonderful culinary skills were shown while she worked as a cook at Columbia Heights Hospital. Her desire and compassion for helping others were exhibited through her work as a Nurse’s Aide and as an employee at Columbia Tree Farm and St. Mary’s School.

Mrs. Haynes was a pillar of the community. In her early years, she was active with the COLTS PTA, and Order of the Eastern Star. She also had the honor of serving as an executive member of the Caldwell Parish Council on Aging. Mrs. Haynes’ community involvement was so notable and inspiring that former President Barack Obama recognized her works as a part of her 90th birthday celebration.

During her leisure time, Mrs. Haynes loved to travel, enjoyed fishing, quilting, and pottery. Those who knew her were well aware of her passion for hats and fashion as she loved to dress up. Mrs. Haynes was very unselfish and that attribute was evident as she often used her spare time serving as a chauffeur for those who needed a ride to doctor appointments.

Preceding Mrs. Haynes in death was her loving husband, Armstead Haynes, Sr., and two sons, James Daniel Haynes Sr. & Donald Ray Haynes. She leaves loving memories and beautiful experiences to be cherished by her devoted children and grandchildren. Six daughters: Kadie E. Anderson (William) of Inglewood, CA; Octavia Haynes and Jacklyn Leake (Roy) of Columbia, LA; Pluma Downs (Freddie) of Monroe, LA; Emma Lee Haynes of Tarzana, CA; Lynn V. Page (Ronnie) of Vallejo, CA. Four sons: Armstead Haynes Jr. (Barbara) of Atlanta, GA; Henry Louis Haynes of Columbia, LA; Delbert Wayne Haynes (Susan) of Killeen, TX and Solomon Craig Haynes (Diane) of Denton, TX. Three nieces: Claudette Roquemore, Evelyn Stoudamire, and Melissa Walker. Two special sons: George William (Rita) and Brian Moran. Special cousin: Ida Yearby. One daughter in law: Waltraud Haynes, 26 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren, 10 great great grandchildren and a host of relatives, community family, and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 16, at 11:00AM, at Brownsville Baptist Church in Columbia, LA. Burial will be held 4:00-7:00PM on Saturday at the Brownsville Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Smith Funeral Home, Friday, June 15, 1:00-3:00PM.
