On Sunday, October 15, the Monroe Municipal Fire and Police Civil Service Board ended the application period for those interested in participating in the competitive civil service examination for Monroe Police Chief. Applications to take the exam were accepted between September 16 and October 15, 2017. A total of 13 candidates have officially signed up to take the exam. The Civil Service Board approved the list of qualified candidates at a meeting held Tuesday, October 17, at the City of Monroe’s Public Safety Center.

The Examination: A written examination will be given at 8:30 am and 1:30 pm on Thursday, November 16, 2017, on a competitive basis to approved applicants for the purpose of placing names on the competitive employment list in accordance with the provisions of the Municipal Fire and Police Civil Service Law and the rules of the Monroe Civil Service Board.

As I previously stated, I am pleased to see the level of interest in our Police Chief’s position. After we receive the test results, I will select the most qualified candidates to interview for the position. Once the interview process has been completed, I will make my selection for Police Chief. Given the date for the exam, I expect that my selection will be made just after the first of the new year. I will then present my selection to the Monroe City Council for confirmation.

By working together, we are making a difference!
