Marching Orders

October 12, 2017

The Monroe Man March will not be an actual “march”. We will not be literally marching from one place to another as it was typically done in the 1960’s. This is not a protest or a demonstration. We are not angry or demanding anything from anyone other than ourselves. We will simply gather at Charles Johnson Park located at 3313 Bernstein Park Drive in Monroe this Saturday, October 14th, to make a statement that we are taking responsibility for the safety of our community. All of us (The Church, The Chosen and The Children) can do something to make Monroe a safer place to live and we will openly make that commitment to God and each other on that day. Although our primary aim is to link males to resources that can help with educational, mental health and employment needs and this gathering is called “The Monroe Man March”, it is not an initiative that is exclusively for men. This will be a family friendly event that is open for every man, woman and young person in Monroe and surrounding areas. If you know someone (male or female) that could benefit from the services that we are trying to make available, please bring them with you. We are asking that EACH 1, REACH 1 and BRING 1. There will not be anything sold during this event. EVERYTHING IS FREE including the FOOD.. Those with booth spaces

who will be cooking or providing information and services will arrive as early as 8am to set up. We will start lining up at 9am @ The Zoo Pavilion located at 1405 Bernstein Park Road and walk into our designated area of Charles Johnson Park to begin the program @ 10am. We have invited Job Corps, Mccann School of Business & Technology, Delta Community College, mental health, substance abuse, counseling and other social service agencies. Local carpenters, plumbers, electricians, concrete finishers and others have been invited to offer employment opportunities for those in need of a job, but have been denied because there may be something on their record. Information on how to get criminal charges expunged will also be available. The main focus and purpose of this event is that we (The Church, The Chosen and The Children) will humble ourselves before God to ask Him to forgive us for falling short of His glory and that we will make a vow to Him to do our part to make our community a safer place to live. We are asking for your prayers that God will lend us His spirit as we strive to make Him proud of our efforts. Thank you for reading these words.
